Cyberbullying Is Not A Back-to-School Issue

Traditionally we have thought of bullying as a school issue. Kids can be brutal. We should know - we were all kids once and were either the victim, bully or bystander. One thing many of us learned as we grew older though is that bullies exist everywhere. Those bullies aren’t limited to school and childhood. However, we learn a lot in our years on how to manage those types of people. That is, we seemed to learn how to manage them.

Okay - I know every business is not making these mistakes but because I am on Facebook about 98% of the time I am awake, I do see these mistakes a lot.  I see them enough that I was inspired to write this blog and even had to scale it back some or it would be tl;dr.  If you are playing by Facebook rules I applaud you.  If you aren't or are not sure, please take a few minutes to learn some of the rules and etiquette of Facebook posting for business.

Is That Photo Legal to Use?

These days, great content and images go hand in hand. In fact, image-based social sharing sites like Tumblr and Vine have been gaining ground and as a result Facebook and Twitter have been making their sites more photo-friendly.

This is only a problem when people unknowingly use photos without considering copyright and legal issues. Every blogger is pulling pictures off Pinterest or Google and sharing photos right?  Maybe some are, but they’re doing it wrong.

It doesn’t matter if you are writing text for a new website, posting a Facebook or Twitter update or publishing a blog, it is essential that you know who your audience is and that you create a message just for them.  One of the easiest and most effective ways to identify your audience is by creating personas.  You can create as many as you like but in most cases three to five is ideal.

You set up a new Twitter account and you are gung-ho ready to start participating in online conversations, spreading your own valuable content and having exchanges with thought leaders and friends online.  It seems so easy, doesn’t it? It is.  But it is easy to mess up too.  Unless you are a professional politician with advisors trailing you and offering advice on what to say, what color to wear, where to look when entering a room and how to greet a new acquaintance you will need to manage your own persona.
