Contextual Administration
So I've been thinking a lot lately about Drupal's current administrative work flow. This biggest problem with Drupal isn't that it's administration sucks, it's that it's administration isn't very cohesive. Mark Boulton and Leisa Reichelt have been working on this very problem for Drupal 7, however they've asked the community to submit information about how we've altered our own administrative interfaces. Now when the request went out initially I really hadn't done any "pimping" of my own admin, but since that time I've been contemplating it a lot.
Fast forward a few weeks to last week some time and I'm looking through our own site. Now I added a little tab to the blog page to allow for easy creation of a new blog w/ no mess, and I've always loved how well that worked out. Granted, at the time I did it in the template, and yeah... bleh, but it was a good kernel of an idea. Since then I've expanded that idea to work properly with the existing menu hooks in drupal 6 on two different modules. I still have a lot of ideas on what could make this better and more flexible while still providing a MUCH better user experience than the one Drupal currently ships with. With that in mind I present to you my 1.0 idea for contextual administration via video format from youtube. I think this has some real potential and could probably be built as a module that allowed for this sort of administration to be turned on "on demand". I hope to begin that project soon. Feedback on the video page is highly appreciated.
